Women of the Word: Review & Printable

Women of the Word: Review & Printable

women of the word

I recently finished reading Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin.  It has been on my “To Read” list for quite some time, and I have seen a number of other bloggers refer to the book, so I figured it was time to read it.

After reading it, I can honestly say that I am really glad that it is being widely promoted and gaining popularity.  The reason?  Jen takes seriously the study of God’s Word.  And she encourages us to do the same.

She talks about how we have shied away from doing the hard work of studying the Bible for ourselves, and have instead relied on the study of other authors and teachers to glean our wisdom from the Scriptures (she is quick to point out that there is certainly a time and place for this).  She wants to inspire women to mine the riches of God’s Word for themselves – reading, re-reading, memorizing, using study tools, and discovering ways to apply it.

Jen explains how to become a student of the Word by studying with the “five P’s” in mind:

  1. Purpose
  2. Perspective
  3. Patience
  4. Process
  5. Prayer

While I don’t want to give any more of the book away, I will say that I found these five P’s extremely helpful, and I can’t wait to start using them during my quiet times.  I even made this printable to stick in my prayer notebook to help me remember the five P’s as I’m working through a particular book of the Bible.
