Make Ahead Smoothie Prep

Hopefully I’ve convinced you of the many benefits of consuming green smoothies on this blog!

Today I want to show you a few easy ways to make drinking a daily green smoothie super easy! With a little preparation at the beginning of the week, you can quickly prep all your ingredients ahead of time to have a week’s worth of delicious green smoothies!

Here is what I like to do at the beginning of the week:

Gather All My Ingredients and Containers

First, I gather all my ingredients and containers and place them on my kitchen counter. I get my leafy greens, frozen fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and any other boosters I want to add.

For the containers, I like to use Mason Jars and quart-size Ziplock freezer baggies to store my smoothie ingredients, because they are both freezer proof. Ziplock bags are particularly great, because you can label them! Just grab your jars, lids, and baggies, and lay them out on your countertop.

Add Greens

If you are using ziplock bags, you’ll want to put your leafy greens in first. If you are using Mason jars, you’ll want to put the greens in last (This is so the greens won’t stick to the bottom of the jar). If you are new to green smoothies, spinach or kale are great greens to start with as they are very mild in taste but loaded with nutrients!

Add Fruits and/or Veggies

Next, I add fruits and/or vegetables. Some of my favorites are bananas, blueberries, strawberries, pineapples, avocados, and zucchinis. Have fun, and add your favorites!

Add Nuts and/or Seeds

Next, I add nuts or seeds. My favorites are chia, hemp and flax seeds. You can also add sliced almonds or cashews. *Note: Certain other add-ins should not be added to the bags or jars, because they do not freeze well (such as nut butters, protein powder and spices). You’ll want to add these just before blending instead!

Place in Freezer

Once your smoothie container is complete, put a lid on the jar or make sure to press all the air out of the ziplock bag before sealing and store in your freezer for up to several months!

When you are ready for your smoothie, simply take your jar or bag out of the freezer, place in blender, add liquid of your choice and any add-ins, and blend away! Easy-peasy!

Have you started the green smoothie habit yet?!
