How to Have a Happy Weekend

Do you ever feel like the weekend goes by too fast? You want to enjoy it and get rejuvenated before the week ahead, but it’s over before you know it and you don’t have much to show for it?! Being intentional with our weekends can dramatically impact the rest of the week. What you do on Friday night matters as much as what you do on Monday night. Here are a few tips that I have found to really enjoy the weekend and help me rejuvenate in body and soul. These tips also prepare me for the week ahead:

Try a 24-Hour Digital Detox

Checking email, scrolling through social media, looking at status updates – the 24/7 access to others and information can quickly take a toll on our emotional health. I aim to stay off all devices for at least 24 hours each week (this usually ends up being Sundays for me). I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to “unplug” during this time each week. This one tip will go a long way in helping you with the other tips I mention below! Give it a try and see if you don’t experience the incredible benefits right away!

Savor Moments with the Ones You Love

Weekdays can get quite busy with work, school, errands, deadlines, etc. Setting aside time to relax with family and friends is a wonderful way to fill your cup and enjoy that special time on the weekends. Try playing board games as a family, getting together with a friend for brunch, or planning a fun dinner with friends. It doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Your loved ones will just appreciate getting to spend time with you, and you’ll be able to savor those special moments and create lasting memories with the ones you love!

Read that Book You’ve Been Meaning to Read

Do you have a stack of books you’ve been meaning to get to? Cozying up with a good book is one of my favorite ways to relax, unwind and let go of the stresses from the week. Why not spend some time on the weekend diving into that stack? Simply choose the one you’ve been wanting to read the most and commit to reading a few chapters (chances are you’ll really get into it and want to read more). Get Outside

Finding time to get outside and enjoy fresh air and sunshine is extremely good for both body and soul! Whether it’s an early morning walk or an after dinner stroll, getting outside in God’s creation always help rejuvenate my spirit. I often use this time to listen to sermons, podcasts or just talk to the Lord (some of my best times of prayer and spiritual breakthroughs have been when I’m walking outside!).

Get Plenty of Sleep

The weekends can be a great time to catch up on sleep and give our bodies a chance to rest from the labors of the week. Try going to bed a little earlier or sleeping in a little later than usual to help reduce stress, strengthen your immune system, and support your overall health.
