God’s Promises in Your Pain

God’s Promises in Your Pain

Does it ever feel like there is too much going on in the world for God to care about your situation?

Ever feel like He is too busy to know the details of your case?

Do you ever feel alone and like no one cares about you or the tough circumstances you are going through?

When you are discouraged, depressed, and in pain, you can counsel your heart with the great and precious promises from God’s Word.
Here are just 4 promises to encourage your heart today:

1. God Knows You and will not Forget You

God never forgets His children.  He knows you better than anyone, because He fashioned and formed you in your mother’s womb.  He knows you intricately.  And He knows the details of every situation you are facing right now.  If you want to understand the extent of God’s intricate knowledge of you, spend time meditating on Psalm 139.  Here’s just a taste:

“You have searched me, Lordand you know me.  You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.  You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”  -Psalm 139:1-3
God knows exactly what is going on in your life.  He has not forgotten you.
In Isaiah 49:15, God says, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”
The next time you are tempted to think that God has forgotten you or doesn’t know what you are going through, remind yourself that He created you, He knows you intimately, and He will never forget you.

2. God Loves You

God’s knowledge of us wouldn’t be nearly as encouraging if we didn’t know that He also loves us!  This is one of the most mind-boggling, amazing, and comforting truths in all of Scripture – God loves us!  The Bible is a book about how much God loves us.  How much?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  -John 3:16
The good news of the Gospel is that God loves you so much, He gave you His only Son!
If you really want to dive deep into studying God’s love for you, I encourage you to meditate on Ephesians 1 and 2.  These passages are rich with truth that will revive your soul.  And if you are in a difficult or dark place right now, I encourage you to read these two chapters every day for the next 30 days.  The next time the Devil tempts you to think that God does not love you, you’ll be armed with these precious truths to combat his lies and set you free!
Remember God’s words to the Israelites and to you:
Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you…”  -Isaiah 43:4

3. God Cares for You

Not only does God know you and love you, He also cares about everything going on in your life.
Every heartache.
Every disappointment.
Every grievance.
Every pain.
Every health problem.
Every relational difficulty.
You name it; He cares.  How do I know?
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  -1 Peter 5:7
Not just the big anxieties or the big problems.  All your anxiety.
Why would He want you to do that?
Because He cares for you!
God doesn’t want you weighed down with the anxieties or burdens of life.  He wants you to cast them all on Him!  To cast means to “throw something forcefully in a specified direction.”  That’s pretty strong language!
Refuse to be weighted down with your anxieties any longer.  Spend time in prayer, casting every single one of them on Him.  Then rest in the comfort of knowing He’ll take care of them, because He cares for you.

4. God Will Never Leave You or Forsake You

Have you ever been abandoned?
Do you feel forsaken?
At some point in our lives, all of us have probably experienced feeling all alone or forsaken by others.
People will fail us in this life.
They will let us down.
They won’t be there when we need them.
They may even betray us or completely forsake us.
But God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us.
Moses encouraged the Israelites with these words when Joshua was going to succeed him in leading the Israelites into the Promised Land:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” -Deuteronomy 31:6
The Israelites were going to have to fight other nations on their way to the Promised Land.  Moses told them why they didn’t need to be afraid.  Because “the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
And friend, that promise applies to you as well.
Whatever your trial, whatever your pain, you don’t have to go through it alone.
Because the LORD your God goes with you.
And let this truth sink in.
He will never leave you.
He will never forsake you.
I’ve read that there are several thousand promises in Scripture.  We just scratched the surface of 4 of them!  I hope you will be encouraged to mine the depth of the riches and treasures that are found in God’s word.  As you read, ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to the promises you need in your life right now.  Write them on notecards or in your journal.  Meditate on them; memorize them, and pray them back to the Lord.  As you seek the Lord, He will show you the treasures in your trial and the purpose in your pain.
What are your favorite promises from Scripture?
