Did you know that dry skin brushing is one of the easiest ways to detox on a regular basis? It literally only takes a minute or two, but the benefits can be long lasting.
So, what exactly is dry skin brushing? It’s simply using a coarse, natural bristle brush to gently brush your entire body. Start at the bottoms of your feet and work your way up your legs using a gentle, circular motion. Do the same thing down the length of your arms and across your chest really focusing on your armpits (one of the primary locations of your lymph nodes).
I like to do this after my shower when my skin is clean, but some prefer to do this before their shower. You should feel a slight tingly sensation in your skin when you are finished.
And what exactly are the benefits? Here are just a few:
Detoxes your lymphatic system
Our lymphatic system is an integral part of our immune system. When our lymphatic system gets backed up with waste (from lack of movement, eating poorly, stress, etc), it’s important to help get things moving and rid our body of waste. Dry skin brushing is an easy way to help detox our lymphatic system.
Exfoliates skin
Regular exfoliation is a must for smooth, young looking skin. Dry skin brushing helps to whisk away dead skin cells and increase healthy cell turnover.
Increase blood flow
That tingly sensation you get when brushing your skin in a circular motion? That’s helping to increase blood flow in your body! This is great to do if you have poor circulation or just want to give your circulation a boost.
Tighten and tone skin
In addition to getting rid of dead skin cells, the increased blood flow to the skin helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite, and it helps to tighten and tone the skin with regular brushing.
One thing I like to add to my dry skin brushing ritual that really helps to boost the health benefits is essential oils. Two blends that really help to add additional detoxing power are Zendocrine Blend and DDR Prime (Damaged DNA Repair Prime). These 2 blends are incredibly potent and by adding a few drops on top of my brush and brushing them into my skin, they quickly get absorbed into my bloodstream and go to work to benefit my cells.
I love my natural boar bristle brush from Bass! It’s the perfect length, and the handle makes it easier to use. I purchased mine at my local Sprouts, but the one above from Amazon is very similar!
