Did you know that the quality of air within many homes is worse than the outdoor air quality? That’s because many people are using commercial cleaners, air fresheners, candles, plug-ins, and laundry products. The majority of commercial brands contain toxic ingredients that can cause a host of health problems (for a list of some of the most common toxic ingredients, click here), including:
- Respiratory Issues
- Hormonal Imbalances
- Skin Irritations
Switching to non-toxic, natural cleaners does not have to be complicated or expensive! In fact, with a few simple ingredients, you can create many recipes to clean every room in your home. Check out the 3 basic ingredients I keep on hand to create effective, non-toxic cleaners (and they smell pretty amazing!):
Baking soda is a non-toxic powder made from naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate. It’s the perfect powder to have on hand to clean everything from toilets to tubs and showers. It’s gentle and does not scratch delicate surfaces. I love incorporating baking soda into my natural cleaning recipes!
Vinegar is a non-toxic liquid that consists of acetic acid and water. It is great as a natural disinfectant, and when paired with baking soda, it creates a bubbly chemical reaction that is great for cleaning surfaces. White vinegar is perfect for creating sparkly mirrors and windows!
Essential Oils can help to boost the disinfectant power of your natural cleaners. Additionally, they make your homemade cleaners smell amazing! It’s like having an aromatherapy session while you clean!
