Okay, so I haven’t tried all the turkey burgers around the world to know if this claim is true, but I do know that these turkey burgers are super moist and flavorful! And our family can’t seem to get enough of them! So, for the sake of argument (and a great post title), we’ll call them the world’s best 😉
If you’ve tried turkey burgers in the past and thought they were too dry and bland, you’ll love this recipe!
With 3 simple ingredients, these burgers couldn’t be easier to mix up and grill on a busy weeknight. And, of course, they’re perfect for weekends too!
One of the tricks to making these burgers super moist is to make sure to buy turkey that has at least 15% fat. Don’t buy the 99% fat free ground turkey and expect to get good results with these burgers! By having a mixture of dark meat with the white meat, you’ll get much more flavor and moisture.
You could also make this recipe with ground beef or ground lamb (my next experiment). If you want to lighten it up a bit, ground turkey is the way to go.
The second trick to making these burgers extra juicy is adding a dollop of mayo. I look for brands that do not contain soy (due to the fact that it can be highly processed and contain genetically modified ingredients or GMOs). One of our favorite discoveries (thanks, Pam, for introducing us to Sir Kensington’s 😉) is the line of condiments by the Sir Kensington’s brand. No, this is not a paid advertisement – we just love this brand! They have an entire line of mayos (and other condiments) that are Non-GMO, organic, and much healthier than your typical store-bought brands. And they taste ah-mazing!
It’s Sir Kensington’s Special Sauce that take these turkey burgers to the next level. Not only does it add moisture to these burgers, it also adds a combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. If you can’t find the Special Sauce, regular mayo will work in a pinch. However, this sauce is definitely worth ordering to have on hand! 😋
Finally, I added about 1 cup of gluten free bread crumbs to the turkey mixture (this helps it to hold together and makes for a heartier burger). I simply added about 3 slices of gluten free bread to my Nutri-Bullet (any blender or food processor will do) with the dry ingredient blade, and pulsated until I had fine bread crumbs.
After mixing the ground turkey, special sauce, and bread crumbs in a bowl, I formed thin patties and simply grilled these over my gas stove on a cast iron skillet (about 4 minutes per side). Note: If you grill these on an outdoor grill, I would make thicker patties so that they don’t fall through the grills 😳
If they still look a little pink on the inside after grilling, you can microwave them for about 1 minute to finish cooking and to preserve the moisture. Unlike beef patties, I do not recommend serving turkey burgers with a pink center!
And voilà! You have moist, tender, flavorful burgers! You can serve these on buns, lettuce wraps, or all by themselves piled high with your favorite toppings. And you may never want to go back to beef burgers again 😁
- 2 pounds ground turkey (make sure it has at least 15% fat and is not the fat free variety)
- 1 cup gluten free bread crumbs (made from pulsating 3-4 slices of gluten free bread in food processor or blender)
- ½ cup Sir Kensington's Special Sauce (plain mayo will work as well)
- pinch of sea salt and ground black pepper
- Mix all ingredients in large bowl until well combined.
- Form thin, flat patties and place on greased, hot cast iron skillet.*
- Grill for about 3-4 minutes per side.**
**If the center is still pink, microwave for about 1 minute to finish cooking and preserve the moisture.
