Once you start using essential oils, there will be a handful of accessories you will want to have to get the most out of them. The following are accessories I personally use and love!
A Good Diffuser
Diffusers are a must if you want to truly experience the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils. By diffusing the oils, you are dispersing their tiny molecules into the air, enabling you to breathe them in and experience the physiological benefits from them. We have several diffusers around the house. The one in my office/schoolroom is going most of the day with energizing, uplifting oils. It makes a tremendous difference in all of our moods throughout the day! My boys each have a diffuser in their rooms, and they choose different calming oils (like lavender and cedarwood) each night to diffuse to help them fall asleep faster.
I absolutely love the Petal Diffuser from doTERRA. It’s the perfect size and looks adorable in my office! It’s also made specifically for use with doTERRA essential oils, so there’s no guessing or wondering if the materials it’s made with are high quality.
For a less expensive brand that can still get the job done, this diffuser from InnoGear is great! The changing colors make it a cute option (particularly for kids rooms, and it can double as a night light!).
Time to ditch the toxic candles, air-fresheners, and plug-ins for the purifying, immune-strengthening, and mood-boosting effects of essential oils!
Rollerballs
I try to make sure to have plenty of rollerballs on hand for making my own creations and favorite blends. Here are some of my favorite companies to order from, because I love their options! From left to right:
The Root & Petal Multicolored Glass Rollerballs – These are super cute and come in packs of 10 (all with different colored caps).
Every Day Oil Essentials – I 💗their amber and pink rollerballs with gold caps! Makes every blend feel more luxurious!
Infinity Jars – Their rollerballs are extremely thick and durable, and the dark color keeps essential oils protected from sunlight.
Carrier Oils
Some oils can be applied directly to the skin (this is called using them “neat”) while others need to be used with a carrier oil to help protect sensitive skin. A carrier oil also helps to keep the essential oil from evaporating too quickly and ensure that it penetrates the skin and gets into your system.
Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) is coconut oil that has had the components that cause it to be solid at room temperature and susceptible to oxidation removed. The resulting substance is liquid at room temperature and very stable. It is also gentle and non-comedogenic (it won’t clog your pores!). It’s perfect for all skin types and is the ideal carrier oil for essential oils because it is odorless and colorless.
For drier skin types, Organic Sunflower oil is another good option. While a bit richer than FCO, Sunflower oil is still gentle and non-pore clogging. It’s virtually odorless, so you will be able to smell all the essential oils you mix with it, making it another great option. Make sure it’s made for cosmetic purposes and not the oil for cooking!
Reference Guides
These resources are my go-to guides for everything about essential oils! They are a must for every essential oil library!
Modern Essentials is THE guide when it comes to understanding each oil and how to use them. Full of the science behind the oils as well as practical tips on how to use them in your daily life, you will refer to this guide again and again!
The Essential Life is another fabulous, must-have resource. Similar to Modern Essentials, it’s a bit more user friendly (think magazine-style) with information on each oil, delicious recipes, rollerball blends and more. It’s chock full of great info and beautiful color photos. I love this book!
If you’re looking for a quick read that’s very informative as well as practical, then you’ll love The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils!
Drinkware
I love to use essential oils in my water! They not only help to boost the flavor, but they help to cleanse, strengthen, and energize the body! Some of my favorites to put in my water are:
- Lemon
- Wild Orange
- Grapefruit
- Slim & Sassy
- Lime
It’s important to use glass or stainless steel water bottles and cups when using essential oils. Some oils, such as lemon, break down petrochemicals found in plastic cups. We certainly don’t want to be ingesting toxins when drinking our water! A simple solution is to use glass cups (such as Mason Jars) or stainless steel cups and water bottles. I love my Corkcicle cup, and it comes in so many cute colors! Another fun option is S’well Stainless Steel Water bottles.
Cleaning Supplies
Once you discover how amazing essential oils are for your home, you will be wanting to try all sorts of DIY cleaning and home care recipes! Glass spray bottles are a much safer option for mixing your recipes in than plastic ones so that the oils won’t break down the plastic. I love these amber spray bottles with cute labels!
For those recipes that need smaller bottles, such as air fresheners or linen sprays, these cute cobalt blue spray bottles are the perfect size!
Infinity Jars has a wonderful variety of spray bottles in all different sizes, and they are made of extremely durable and thick glass!
These are just a few of the accessories that will help you as you live the oil life!
