Isaiah 41:10

Isaiah 41:10

This past week has been one of great stress for me, along with over half the nation.

We are in the midst of the most important Presidential election of our lifetime. And America’s future seems unclear at the moment. Will we continue to be a nation of freedom, or will we see a drastic shift towards socialism?

I’ve been praying many Scriptures over the past week. Praying God’s Word is one of the best things we can do, because we know we are praying His will.

One of the many Scriptures the Lord keeps bringing to mind is Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

I notice 3 things about this wonderful verse – God’s commands, God’s truths, and God’s promises.

1. God’s Commands

This verse has two very similar commands in it – Fear not, and Be not dismayed.

The dictionary defines fear as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” God tells us not to have this emotion. He tells us not to feel this way.

Dismay is defined as “consternation and distress, typically that is caused by something unexpected.” Again, God tells us not to feel this way.

Easier said than done, right?

How can we possibly obey His command not to fear and not to be dismayed?

2. God’s Truths

Truth is defined as “that which is in accordance with fact or reality.” Jesus said in John 14:6 that he is the truth! “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”

If you want to stay rooted in reality and focus on facts, abide in Jesus and meditate on his word!

And look at the wonderful truths of this verse:

  • I am with you.
  • I am your God.

For the Christian, these are facts. This is reality! God is with you, and He is your God. You don’t have to worry, fret, or fear. You can replace your fears with these glorious facts.

That alone should be enough to encourage your heart. But He doesn’t stop there.

3. God’s Promises

Some scholars say there are over 7,000 different promises of God in Scripture. Isaiah 41:10 contains 3 of them:

  • I will strengthen you
  • I will help you
  • I will uphold you with my righteous right hand

One of the definitions of the word promise is “assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.”

If God said it, He will do it. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.”

So, we can rest assured that God will strengthen us; He will help us; He will uphold us by His righteous right hand. When God speaks of his righteous, right hand, He speaks of His full and perfect strength and ability. We don’t have to wonder if He can or will do it. He promised it; it’s as good as done!
